Use Case
Enabling Real-Time Decision-Making with Digital Product Passports for Contruction
The construction industry is undergoing a profound transformation. Rising environmental expectations, European circularity goals, and increasing demands for transparency are reshaping how buildings are designed, built, and dismantled. At the same time, operational efficiency remains crucial. There is growing urgency for data solutions that not only support compliance, but also enable smarter decisions throughout the building lifecycle.
DPPs are emerging as a key mechanism in this shift, offering a standardized way to capture and share information about products, materials, and environmental impact. But to truly create value, these systems must go beyond static documentation. In material-intensive domains such as hollow core slabs, the opportunity lies in turning data into real-time, operational insights that guide construction and reuse.
At Nexa Pioneers, we are co-developing an integrated DPP solution for hollow core slabs. Together with manufacturers, software partners, architects, contractors, logistics providers, and demolition specialists, we are building a system that is not only complete and compliant, but truly usable in day-to-day operations.
What sets our approach apart?
We create fully automated data pipelines by linking directly to existing digital systems used in design, production, and logistics. DPPs are generated and updated without manual intervention, ensuring consistency and accuracy while reducing administrative burden for all parties involved.
We enable architects and other stakeholders to add specific operational instructions to the DPP, such as restrictions on where a hollow core slab may be used, or how it should be recovered at end-of-life. These instructions are embedded as metadata and immediately accessible to construction crews and planning systems, making the information directly actionable on-site.
We integrate the DPP into active workflows, so it becomes part of day-to-day operations. During dismantling or renovation, it allows for intelligent material recovery, selective dismantling, and informed reuse decisions based on data.
We see the DPP as a smart ‘data file’ that is fully part of the project’s daily work. Instead of building new systems for reports, we connect the DPP to tools that people already use. This way, the data supports fast and accurate building, without adding extra steps.
We build our solution around the needs of the full value chain. By engaging all relevant actors in co-design, we ensure that the DPP not only fulfils regulatory goals, but also creates shared value, improving coordination, reducing waste, and supporting circular business models at scale.
